Absences and Tardiness

Principals and teachers assume the responsibility for checking the regular attendance of all students. All absences are reported to the principal daily. Records of absence shall be kept for all students.

Students who are absent shall be obliged upon their return to school to bring a written excuse stating the reason for the absence. These excuses must be dated and signed by a parent or guardian. They shall be kept on file until the close of the school year by the teacher.

An excused absence is to be allowed for such reasons as illness or death in the immediate family. Doctor and dental appointments should, if at all possible, be made outside school hours.

If your child is going to be absent or late, please call the school before 8:00 a.m. Arrangements to pick up homework may be made at that time. Please see the guidelines regarding communicable illnesses before sending your child to school.

A student who arrives after 8:00 a.m. is considered tardy. Parents or guardians of the student will be contacted when there are repeated cases of tardiness. Students who arrive very late, or in the afternoon must report to the office before going to class.

Truancy will be reported to the proper authorities if the student is inexcusably absent on either three (3) consecutive days, five (5) or more days in any

semester. This rule is in accordance with State Law 72-1113. Absences will be determined as excused or unexcused by the principal.
